Enliven Magazine is the nation’s leading Christian fitness magazine catering to the African American community.
Enliven (En-ly-vin) means to give spirit or vivacity to; to inspire; to make vigorous or active.
Enliven Magazine wants to give African Americans the spirit they need to be healthy by incorporating faith based principles into their healthy lifestyles. We want to inspire them to make the right food choices. We intend to make them vigorous and active by giving them fun, affordable and exciting ways to stay fit and mobile.
According to the CDC, African Americans have the highest rates of obesity at 41%. Additonally, the Office of Minority Health found that African Americans were 50% less likely to engage in active physical activity as Non-Hispanic Whites. Furthermore, the American Public Health Association found that faith-based programs provide positive results in all groups, but have been effectively demonstrated in the African American community.
For this reason, the mission of Enliven Magazine is to be a Christian resource targeting underserved African American populations who would otherwise have a lack of relevant information and resources to make the necessary changes needed to live healthier lifestyles.
How Enliven is Different
You won’t find any article, product or service that 1) compromises the word of God or 2) negates the fact that the reason we exercise and eat right is to honor God, not to look a certain way or be a certain size. The idea is not to promote an external goal, that is an added benefit, but the very purpose of living a healthy lifestyle is to honor God with our bodies and to live long so that we can fulfill his will for our lives.

Features
Our magazine features stories on the physical, nutritional and spiritual issues involved with weight loss and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. We provide advice and tips from doctors, nutritionists and fitness professionals. More importantly, we give you the stories of average men and women – mothers, sisters, brothers and dads – who have struggled with weight issues, real people, just like you, who have fought to lead healthier lives and are succeeding.
Some of the unique features you’ll find in our magazine include:
- Poems and stories that reflect the emotional issues surrounding weight loss.
- Spiritual words that will inspire you to keep faith in the journey even when you’re at your worst.
- Ideas like salsa dancing and yoga in the park that make fitness fun!
It is only through the knowledge of Jesus Christ can one even begin to live healthy. This magazine is devoted to teaching Godly principles based on the Word of God.
Why We Are not a Non-proft
Enliven Magazine wishes to fully share the gift of health available through Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. We believe that the public good created by this service will be valued, put to use, and appreciated by Christians and non-Christians alike. Although we do support and partner with Churches and charitable efforts, we do not fit the state definition of a religious assembly. You can support us by subscribing, sharing with friends, and/or advertising your services.
